Martial Arts Diarists Attempt Second US Crossing

Martial Arts Diarists Attempt Second US Crossing

Published by the Mix96 News Team at 6:34am 1st August 2017.

Two Aylesbury martial arts experts have turned to so-called crowd-sourcing websites to raise £12,000 in just 3-weeks for a second attempt to cycle across America.

Neil Axe - along with three others - including Graham Cadle - raised £5m for the Great Ormond Street Hospital in 1988.

Neil wrote a diary of the venture they wanted to published when they got home.

Graham told Mix 96, there was a tragedy - right at the end:

"The diaries weren't published because right at the end of the journey we were in Los Angeles. Neil was in a car with a lady who was showing him a Corvette Stingray and she had a crash and died.

Any thoughts of publishing then went ouf of the window because it was a hell of downer on what we'd done."

Neil added:

"The diaries had been stored in a box - they contained quite painful memories. I held Kay Baxter, the lady who died in the crash as she went"

But a quarter of a century on, the group want to return to the US, do the journey again - this time with their sons - and revisit the places and see if they can catch up with the characters they met.

Now if they guys can raise the money - they intend to update and publish the book.
