Tonne of Tins

Aylesbury Vale has donated almost two tonnes of tins to our Tonne of Tins appeal for local foodbanks.

Your generosity has, once again, blown us away.

Over the last few weeks we've been asking for your donations of tinned food, to help foodbanks in the area so they can continue feeding people who are struggling.

Well, we asked for a tonne and we almost got two.

In total you have donated 1.94 tonnes of tins, that's over 5,000 tins!

The Aylesbury Storehouse at The Vineyard Church and Aylesbury Foodbank received their share yesterday, when our campaign came to an end.

James Tweets works at the vineyard and is absolutely thrilled:

"It's phenomenal, I can't quite believe it really.

"This time of year we really struggle, historically our food supply dips.

"But, this has really bolstered what we're desperately in need for - it's amazing."

Why we ran the appeal

No-one should require the needs of a Foodbank, but the reality is, a lot of people here in Bucks are relying on them.  More than ever before in fact.

We recently reported that for the first time ever Aylesbury Foodbank gave out more food than was donated to them

So Mix96 decided to get involved, we launched our Tonne Of Tins Appeal to try and make sure that when people need it the most, they can feed their families.

Did you know?

During the school holidays demand for food banks increases.  For some families who receive free school meals the long summer break can be an unwanted financial stress so this summer we've launched our appeal to collect a tonne of food to help.

Our local food banks provide food to people in food crisis but only provide supplies to those who have  proven their genuine need and who are being helped by an organisation to overcome that crisis.

What should I donate?

All of our food banks will accept any long life products.  All tinned goods fall in to this category.  Some of the most in demand foods include:-

  • Tinned Fruit
  • Tinned Meat
  • Tinned Vegetables
  • Sponge Puddings
  • Rice Pudding
  • Custard

Where will the food go?

We're working with two food banks and your donations will be split between them.  The food banks that we're supporting are Aylesbury Foodbank (run by the Trussel Trust) and Aylesbury Vineyard Storehouse (partnered with Aylesbury Vineyard Church).

We'll be collecting until mid-September.
