WhizzfizzFest 2018

WhizzFizzFest is back for 2018 and bigger and better than ever.

Whizzfizzfest is back on the 30 June from 11am - 5:30pm.

The day celebrates the life and work of Roald Dahl as well as many of the most famous literary characters and authors of all time.

The much loved parade will start at 11am and then there is a full day of fun that the whole family can enjoy including this year celebrity guests, more details below.

There's a great line-up of celebs you can come and see, Olympic legend Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill and singing icon Tony Hadley are both hosting question and answer sessions.

Or join the much loved Dame Darcey Bussell who will be judging the final of a dance competition.

The festival is taking place on Saturday 30 June in Aylesbury town centre.

This year the event will be themed around Magic and Mystery and will kick off with a parade of local school children involving hundreds of school age children from across the Vale.

The parade is inspired by their favourite children’s books and young people are helped to produce unique and exciting art work that is showcased to an audience of thousands as the town bursts into life with a riot of colour and music to celebrate children’s literature.

WhizzFizzFest is presented by Aylesbury Vale District Council (AVDC).

Magic of the Dance with Dame Darcey Bussell

3pm-4pm Main marquee, Market Square

Ticket prices: Adult £7, Child £5 (2-16 years)

A fantastic opportunity to see ballerina extraordinaire and Strictly Come Dancing judge, Dame Darcey Bussell!

Darcey will be hosting the final of the spectacular Magic of the Dance competition in the main marquee at 3pm. This 1 hour ticketed event featuring over 100 local school students also includes a warm up routine performed by Darcey and her own dancers!

Event will be held in the main marquee close to the Clock Tower.

2pm-3pm Main marquee, Market Square

Join the fantastic Olympic and 3 x World Champion heptathlete Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill, author of the children's book series, Evie's Magic Bracelet, for a fascinating in-depth question and answer session.

Hear the fantastic singer and songwriter, Tony Hadley, in his very own Question & Answer session!

With only 200 tickets for sale in the Hale Leys marquee, this intimate venue is the perfect opportunity to get up front and personal as Tony reveals more about his amazing life, his love of music and the inspiration behind his new album.

Join the pirates for afternoon tea in the beautiful Bucks County Museum gardens. Enjoy music, pirate antics and tales from Peter Pan, whilst enjoying an array of sandwiches, tea, scones & cream and cupcakes. There is also a special guest appearance from a cast member from the Aylesbury Waterside Theatre production of Peter Pan.

This year's Fancy Dress competition will be bigger, brighter and better than ever! With lots of AMAZING WhizzFizz prizes to be won - including the honour of switching on the Christmas lights in Aylesbury on 15 November!

Meet the authors coming to WhizzFizzFest

A big part of WhizzFizzFest is meeting your favourite authors, so alongside the likes of Dame Darcy and Dame Jessica there are four children's authors here for interactive sessions.

 Meet David Solomons, creator of one of the most unlikely super heroes (Luke’s brother) who has to battle it out with even unlikelier super villains (My Gym Teacher is an Alien Overlord) with hilarious results. Find out where it all began and hear David read from his latest book My Arch-Enemy is a Brain in a Jar.

 Winner of the Waterstones Children’s Prize 2016 and a Lollies Laugh Out Loud Book Award 2017, David Solomons was a screen writer before writing his own books. His first feature film was an adaptation of E Nesbit’s Five Children and It starring Kenneth Branagh and Eddie Izzard. David is currently writing two new Dr Who stories for BBC Children’s Books.

Join award winning author and illustrator Steve Antony, creator of the Mr Panda series and The Queen’s Hat, for a fun creative and interactive story time session. Steve will treat the audience to a Mr Panda reading and introduce Blip, a new character from his latest picture book, Unplugged that reminds us to go outside and enjoy the natural world. There will be plenty of pens and paper so that you can have a go at learning to draw Mr Panda and share in Steve’s drawing tips.

As you can imagine actor, author and Sunday Times columnist, Andrew Clover, is never lost for words. Join him for an energetic and interactive talk about his writing, storytelling and his latest brilliant character 9 year old Rory Branagan – detective.

 And I say, ‘Ahhhh… you don’t just FIND YOURSELF suddenly sneaking up on baddies, or diving out of the way as they shoot, or hurtling from an open plane towards the ground! You have to want it.’
